Every self-respecting manual contains all the instructions for the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the machinery to which it refers. Still, users rarely read its entirety. NEVER underestimate the importance of routine maintenance of your filter; keeping your machine at total efficiency and safeguarding its components is essential.
Cheap RO repair service is often contacted by customers who have purchased filters elsewhere and need to be adequately informed about this by their suppliers, thus having severe problems.
The most frequent of all is the loss of efficiency of the diodes, which “burn out”, with significant damage, not only technical (since burnt-out diodes cause various problems, as the filter is no longer at its maximum efficiency) but also economic (replacing the diodes costs thousands of euros).
HOW OFTEN SHOULD FILTERS BE CHANGED?
For optimal water filtration, we recommend changing the filters every six months. Of course, this is just a rough guideline. To get a more realistic figure, remember that RO filters, depending on their size, range from 3,000 to 34,000 liters of water. Therefore, the saturation of the filter depends on the system’s use. If a cleaner supplies the typical average family with regular consumption, six months is the correct period. However, if the user is more significant, such as an office, a school, or a public building, you need to calculate how many liters of water are used daily and relate them to the size of the filter. At that point, it may be necessary to change it more often.
What happens if I don’t change the water filter?
The photo below shows how many impurities a changed filter retained after a few months of work despite monthly water changes. First, the filter will release what it has retained over time, so dirty water will circulate even if you replace it. After a long time, the filter reaches saturation, and the organic residues can create a bacterial flora inside it. If maintenance operations are carried out according to the manufacturer’s instructions given in the manual, the warranty may remain active.
The insurance company may refuse to pay in case of damage to the machinery or customers.
Replacing the filter
- Sometimes, there are two filters, which only sometimes need to be changed simultaneously.
- Instructions on how and when to replace them must be reported in the manual.
- Usually, especially in the latest generation filters, this is a simple operation that the user can perform independently.
- But if the user manual says that a technician must do the filter change, it is advisable to do it with someone else.
Which filter should I use?
Let’s start with an important point: water filters are different.
Your supplier should provide them upon request or replace them directly. If, for any reason, this is not possible, we strongly advise against “doing it yourself” by searching online based on a simple image without knowing the requirements and without contacting any RO service near me.
Several times, we had to perform interventions on damaged diodes because the filters used were not the original ones: they were very similar but did not have the exact technical specifications (for example, the m3/hour or the density, i.e., the filtering capacity, were wrong). To save a few pennies, thousands of euros were damaged. Was it worth it?
Always ask your supplier about the frequency and method of performing ordinary maintenance operations (which must be reported in the manual), write them down on a special sheet when you perform them, and also note the number reported on the spot meter. During the inspection, they may ask you to demonstrate what ordinary maintenance you have done and how and when.
Also, keeping a maintenance diary will help you to have a better, always up-to-date monitoring of the life of your filter.
